Botanical by Hendrik van Rheede tot Draakestein, a naturalist and colonial administrator for the Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie). He served as a governor of Dutch Malabar along the southwest coast of India from 1669-76 and headed the effort to produce Hortus Malabaricus, a book which documented and described 740 plants native to the region.
