The Reverend William Houghton (1828-1895), English naturalist and clergyman, published several natural history works over the course of his lifetime. British Fresh-Water Fishes, his major work, was released in two volumes in 1879 and contained 41 color plates based on fish specimens at the British Museum. Houghton served as rector of Preston on the Weald Moors in Shropshire and later became a Fellow of the Linnaean Society of London.
